Students of the Month
for November

Safeties of the Month

Students of the Month: RESPECTFUL!

Negative Lunch Balances
Mrs. Jed does a fabulous job for us in the kitchen.
Please make sure you keep up with your child's lunch
balance. You may pay ahead by either sending
in cash or a check, made out to Livonia Public Schools,
with your child's name in the memo, OR
pay online: https://www2.mypaymentsplus.com/welcome.
Much appreciated!

As part of the November theme,
BE RESPECTFUL,
Rosedale students posted compliments
on our Compliment Board!

Hillary’s Happenings

We have been working hard in the LMC.  Kindergarteners have been learning the parts of a book (front, back, and spine) as well as the difference between fiction and non-fiction.  First graders have been learning what a biography is (a non-fiction book about a person that is not written by the person) and have been listening to many biographies during their visits to the LMC.  Ask your first grader if they remember what a non-fiction book about a person that is written by that person is called (autobiography).  Second graders have been learning how to access and use the school’s card catalog.  They can now look for themselves whether or not we own a book, if it is in the LMC or checked out, and even put a hold on a book they want to check out.  Third graders have been working hard to learn about Google Slides and begin researching the city of Livonia.  Fourth graders have been learning about the Dewey decimal system and how the LMC is arranged.  They even completed a scavenger hunt recently to find a book from every different section of the LMC.

Red Wings for Reading presented by MESP
The Red Wings for Reading contest is open to all elementary students in Michigan.  Justin Abdelkader of the Red Wings will give the winning student a pair of tickets to the Red Wings home game on March 16, 2019 at 2:00pm.   All information can be found online at https://www.nhl.com/redwings/community/red-wings-for-reading
While I will not be actively promoting this in the school simply because we do not have enough of each book for our students, I wanted to let all of you know about a fun activity to help encourage your child(ren) to read.  We have many of the books, but if all 282 students are trying to check the same books out, there will be a lot of frustration.  Please let your students know they are encouraged to check with me or the card catalog to find the books but be aware that the public library should also have the books that we do not have or that are already checked out to another student.

I am still looking for old smartphones that are no longer being used.  We have some virtual reality cardboard viewers that require a device to work.  IF you do have one to donate, please wipe all data and remove all passwords from it (do a “factory reset”).  We just need to be able to connect to the school wi-fi to utilize them.
